It's On...

Well...it's official. And seeing that I am sharing this publicly on the web, means I better stick to my goals. I have entered the first marathon of my life, which is a qualifying race for two (2x) ultra-marathon's I plan to participate in within 2013. My nerves are up and my heart races at the thought of it. But I am dedicated and I love to run! More importantly, I love the people of Swaziland, Africa. Of which, this idea wouldn't even exist. They are my motivation. More on that later.

My first ever marathon will be the Winelands Marathon in Stellenbosch, South Africa (located near Cape Town). It's taking place next Saturday the 17th of November. Take a look at the profile for the 42 km race:

I've been told that this is a particularly challenging race. My goal is to finish sub-5 hours. If this is accomplished, I will qualify to compete in the "Worlds Most Beautiful Marathon," the 56km Two Oceans Marathon (http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/)  in March 2013. In addition to these 2 incredible personal challenges, I will take it one step further (no pun intended); which is to compete in the 89km Comrades Marathon (http://www.comrades.com/). This race has been dubiously dubbed the "Ultimate Human Race."

Why would I do such a thing? Well it's simple. I plan to raise money for the vulnerable children & families of Swaziland, Africa. If you don't know me, here's a bit of information about what I do. I have been an active board member of the Compassionate Life Foundation (www.james127.org) for 5 years. It's what brought me to the continent of Africa in the first place. I have been apart of some incredible experiences with the people of Swaziland and they have helped craft me into the person I am today.

So yes....if I have captured your attention this long...please consider one more thought. As I work towards my ultimate goal of the Comrades 89 km Ultra Marathon, I will be garnering peoples support (both monetarily and prayerfully). First things first....journey with me on this adventure. Be a part of my successes and my failures. We'll talk logistics of how you can help at another stage. In the meantime....

Run On!!
